Bio
Hello, My name is Sandhya Wijesekera – Piano Teacher, but you can call me Savi. I’m 29 years old and a professional pianist, arranger, accompanist, and teacher. I started learning piano at the age of 6. Having studied Classical music at Trinity Guildhall London, I further Studied Jazz and Improvisation at Berklee College of Music. I have had the opportunity to perform a variety of styles on different occasions along with many talented musicians. At the same time, I have enjoyed sharing my knowledge and passion with students of all ages for more than ten years. I’m always patient and supportive of my students, as I love encouraging them to be creative and explorative. I love Cats, Cycling, Scuba diving, Reading, Watching movies, and listening to my favorite music during my past time.
My ultimate goal is to motivate and guide you along your journey to achieving your personal goals while teaching you how to become a well-to, independent player. Nothing makes me happier than seeing your progress and experiencing the joy of learning an instrument.
Here’s what to expect in my lessons.
As a beginner, you will learn essential elements, techniques, repertoire, and fundamentals of music theory in a fun learning platform with listening activities, games, and online quizzes designed for different levels of learning. Later, once you have developed and grown in your ability to play with foundational aspects, you will be exposed to a more complex understanding of music, like improvisation, harmony, analysis, composition, etc. Sometimes you may be required to work with your peers to develop your social aspects of making music and sharing with others. I believe digital learning has taken over a considerable step forward in helping students accomplish goals with new learning strategies. It can create perspective and engage students on a whole new level.
I’m excited to be part of your journey and look forward to meeting you!
