Bio

Hafa Adai, I hail from the beautiful island of Guam! Now living in Seattle, Washington. I received my Associate Degree in Music with a focus on Guitar Performance from Musicians Institute Hollywood, California in 2007.

I have had my music placed on multiple tv shows and a movie (the Real World, Road Rules, The Tested etc) and got to play on Jimmy Kimmel Live! with my former band Xolie Morra and the Strange Kind. I’ve been lucky enough to cross paths and share the stage with many musical giants, including Crosby, Stills, and Nash, John Mayer, Don Felder, Brandi Carlile, Russell Ferrante, Travis Carlton, and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. I love playing music, but meeting good people through music and arts is also just the best thing ever and I hope to keep that going 🙂

I’ve been a working musician for the past 20+ years, teaching guitar, bass, and ukulele full time for the past 6 years, and have grown very passionate about sharing and teaching all the joys of music! I hope to be able to spread that joy and positivity to my students and the global music community!

What to expect

I take pride in catering to each student’s needs and wants with lessons, whether it be learning songs, riffs, weird noises, music theory, etc. Beginners through advanced players are all welcome!

Your choice of 30min or 1hr lessons! Beginner students can expect to learn the fundamentals: how to fret, how to tune, basic chords and scales, how to read(I teach with tablature!), rhythm, scale, and fretting exercises, hand posture and songs etc! Intermediate and Advanced students can expect to cover mostly anything from music theory and its applications, to creating chord melody arrangements for things like: weird memes, 80s Japanese synth pop wave video game anime music (lol), and Yellow Magic Orchestra (which I literally do for fun). Pick a song, we'll learn it!

I do expect my students to have their instruments along with a tuner and metronome (or some sort of rhythm machine) to play along/practice to. These can be had for free and I can recommend certain apps or products if you have any questions regarding these items!

And finally, I totally understand that everyone learns differently and wants to play differently, so I will never(probably never?) say you have to do things exactly a certain way. Instead, I will give instruction, direction, and suggestions to help you figure out and develop your own personal style!
