Bio
Hi all, thank you for taking the time to visit my profile!
I am a classically trained vocalist and applied linguist, currently residing in the West Michigan area. I approach my instruction with the philosophy that music is a language. In this philosophy, I welcome those who are looking for extreme technique training and vocal pedagogy. Using my classical background, I have also developed effective & multidisciplinary vocal methods for Trans and Non-Binary voice training. I also have a lot of experience working with original artists in preparation for auditions, performances, and studio recordings. If this sounds like you, let’s talk!
My formal training is in Opera and Musical Theater from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee (BM), with additional interests in singing Cabaret and Jazz. Early in my academic training, I was an active member of Opera Grand Rapids and a finalist in the Opera Grand Rapids Vocal Collegiate Competition at age 19. It should be noted though that my passion for music began as a young singer/songwriter, influenced by classic rock, pop, and country music. I saw my first opera after I was being trained classically!
Some career highlights include studying and performing at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, OperaWorks 2016 in Los Angeles, California, and my time spent with The MUSE Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to music instruction for adults with disabilities. It was this experience as a board director, private music & life skills instructor that shifted me towards my current career goals in providing music instruction to an array of different disabilities and severity levels.
My interest in linguistics stems from the belief that music is a language. I specifically sought a Master’s degree in Second Language Acquisition in order to draw parallels from their field of research and apply it to my knowledge of musicality. I am very passionate about bridging the gap between musicality and language, and also the humanities and sciences.
Ultimately, I believe music is for everyone and that it should be about the journey, not the destiny. As a part of your musical journey, it is my goal to provide you with the necessary tools to carry yourself as a well-rounded musician and vocalist.
