Bio

Greetings! I am Helber Fernandes, I am from São Paulo, Brazil, I am a pianist, and above all a music lover! I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from the Universidade de São Paulo under the supervision of the acclaimed pianist Dr. Eduardo Monteiro. Here in the US, I worked on my Master’s degree also in Piano Performance at the Fort Hays State University and University of Wyoming under the supervision of Dr. Theresa Bogard and Dr. Irena Ravitskaya. Currently, I am in the final stages of my doctorate in Piano Performance at the University of Northern Colorado under the supervision of Dr. Lei Weng, where I also work on Piano Pedagogy.
My career also features recitals in important venues, as well as prizes in piano competitions and music research competitions.
I have taught people from all ages for 12 years, including 5 years working in higher education. My main goal has been to acquire as many pedagogical tools as possible to adapt myself to each student for them to find their true potential and achieve their goals. My duties included teaching Class Piano and working as a collaborative pianist supporting ensembles and students of various studios of the Music and Theatre Department department of the Fort Hays State University.

(2017 - 2018) Graduate Assistant. Department of Music, University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY, USA. My duties included teaching Class Piano and working as a collaborative pianist supporting ensembles and students of various studios of the Department of Music of the University of Wyoming.

(2014 - 2017) Music Research Fellow. School of Arts and Communication, University of Sao Paulo, São Paulo, SP, Brazil. In this fellowship position I developed a research project on the Sonata op. 111 by Ludwig van Beethoven under the supervision of the pianist Dr. Eduardo Monteiro. This research was funded by the Sao Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and by the Programa Institucional de Bolsas de Iniciação Científica (PIBIC).
